Somewhere, Somehow
Solo Exhibition - 28 November, 2026 - 23 January, 2027

Indonesians call it jam karet: rubber time, where time stretches and oozes into a chronic present. Pooling underneath the humidity is a numbing intensity that is rarely spoken. In her first solo exhibition, Somewhere, Somehow, Tifani Anggun paints that time in latex mixed with pigment. These slow and gradual paintings reveal how memories surface in sometimes inexplicable ways.
The memories arrive unbidden through the salty air, the little streets, and the quiet moments of a childhood in Sanur. Familiar sensations as colour and atmosphere. She chose abstraction because “it’s free, I don’t have to put any name or intention”. In a thick, viscous society where so much is felt and so little is said, that freedom is a kind of respite. Painting is not where Tifani understands these complex feelings, “When I paint I always find myself. I really don’t feel anything, and I like it”. Some surfaces stay still, while others bubble over their edges, fester, or are lathered bright and thick over something heavier.
