Solo Exhibition - 11 November – 6 December, 2016
REDBASE Foundation Indonesia

cen-sor by Ari Bayuaji, developed during his residency with Redbase Foundation, explores the evolving cultural history and societal scrutiny surrounding Indonesian women through paper collages and layered figurative sculptures. Incorporating vintage stamps, magazines, and personal archival notes from his late mother, a longtime aerobics instructor, the project treats these found items as historical records of lifestyle and fashion. By combining these archives with acrylic paint and colored pencils on media like wood, paper, and stone, Bayuaji constructs distorted female forms that directly confront social judgment over women's appearances. These textured, vibrant figures strike a delicate balance between vulnerability and aggression, turning personal and cultural memory into a universal mirror for societal reality.
