Indonesian artist Budi Setyawan completed his studies in Fine Arts (Seni Murni) at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta. Based in Kasihan, Bantul, his practice operates across a broad multidisciplinary spectrum that spans visual arts, performance art, and videography. His work reflects an ongoing engagement with site-specific narratives, cultural documentation, and experimental collaboration.
Setyawan’s multidisciplinary repertoire ranges from institutional exhibitions to collaborative site-specific performances and video production. He has showcased his fine art works across major Indonesian venues, including the National Museum of Indonesia, Sangkring Art Space, and Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, earning honors such as the Best Work award from the Indonesian Heritage Society (2010) as well as nominations for the Jakarta Art Award (2012) and the UOB Painting of the Year (2016). Parallel to his visual work, he collaborates on performance art projects with cultural groups like Komunitas Seni Lima Gunung and produces documentary and experimental videos, capturing community voices, monument creations, and educational initiatives.
