Fikril Hanif

Ahmad Fikril Hanif was born in Malaysia and graduated with a degree in Fine Arts (majoring in Painting) from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). In his practice, Fikril explores the power of alphabets as essential symbols of human communication and cultural connectivity. Viewing typography through a unique sociopolitical lens, he examines how the Roman alphabet has historically functioned like a modern "instant product", simplifying global exchange while gradually shifting traditional local scripts and complex cultural narratives. Combining monoprint, drawing, acrylic painting, and experimental installation work, his multi-layered compositions overlay text, everyday imagery, and regional themes to capture transient emotions and open ongoing cultural conversations.
Fikril has participated in artist-in-residence programs, including the AIR Program at REDBASE Foundation in Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2018). His work and installations have been presented in solo and group exhibitions across Malaysia and Indonesia, including REDBASE Foundation and Setudio Minyak.
