Arya Sudrajat

Indonesia

Indonesian artist Arya Sudrajat was born and raised in Jelekong, where he developed his foundational practice within the local art community. Driven by a desire to enrich his perspective and engage with broader dialogues in Indonesian fine art—particularly within Bandung—he bridges localized traditions with the contemporary art scene outside his hometown.

Working across painting and installation, Sudrajat utilizes fragments of local identity and found objects from his immediate environment as a method of creation. His practice focuses on artifacts and discarded items that have lost their original utility, recontextualizing them to examine patterns of behavior, collective memory, and traces of process. Drawing from daily technical painting habits and fabric-printing techniques native to Jelekong, his work extends beyond two-dimensional canvases by integrating spent printing fabrics and environmental remnants into spatial installations, holding his community's everyday heritage against contemporary artistic exploration.
