Baru Klinthing Nyembur

Solo Exhibition - 8 February – 8 March, 2020
REDBASE Foundation Indonesia

Baru Klinthing Nyembur investigates Javanese historical narrative, political erasure, and visual storytelling through the lens of printmaker Yohanes Wahyu (aka Kimpul). Focusing on the legend of Ki Ageng Mangir IV and his legendary weapon, Kiai Baru Klinting, Kimpul explores how victor-written history often suppresses defeated voices. By translating fragments of rare folklore into intricate graphic scenes, the exhibition uses visual art as a vital bridge, reconstructing forgotten myths and reclaiming omitted historical truths where canonical written records fall short.
